January 18-25: Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be celebrated around the world January 18 to 25, 2017, on the theme Reconciliation – The Love of Christ Compels Us (2 Corinthians 5:14-20). The resources in English and French can be freely downloaded online from the website of the Canadian Council of Churches (CCC) and print materials may be ordered as well. The theme invites Christians around the world to celebrate God’s reconciling grace, call us to recognize the pain of the deep divisions which afflict the Church, and urge us to become ambassadors of Christ’s message of reconciliation.

The theme and biblical text for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity are chosen by an international joint committee of the World Council of Churches and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. For 2017, international resources for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity have been prepared by a German ecumenical team, whose members represents various Churches and Religions organizations.

National and regional councils of churches adapt these materials for use in their local context. The resources for Canada were produced by an ecumenical writing team coordinated by the Commission on Faith and Witness of the Canadian Council of Churches, in collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism in Montreal and the Prairie Centre for Ecumenism in Saskatoon.
