December 2 -- International Day for the Abolition of Slavery - Celebration Plan

December 2 -- The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, December 2, marks the anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations of the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others.

The Canadian Religious Conference invites you to join in prayer to highlight this day. To help keep you mindful of the very sad plight of the victims of trafficking, the people involved in this awful trade as well as all those who can do something to stop it, we suggest the following elements for a celebration.

We hope that this celebration will be a way to unite with the many numerous persons, communities and organizations involved in the fight against this form of modern slavery, known as trafficking in persons.

Lise Barbeau, SCSL
Jean Bellefeuille

The celebration has three parts: Sharing information; Human trafficking and the Bible; Declaration and Prayer. Guidelines for preparation prior to the celebration are also included. See PDF Document.

We thank all those who sent us material that helped us build this celebration. Your contributions were greatly appreciated.

We also thank the 30 women religious from 26 countries gathered in Rome October 15 to 20, 2007, in a seminar entitled Building a Network: The Prophetic Role of Women Religious in the Fight against Trafficking in Persons. The seminar was organized by the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See and the Italian Union of Major Superiors. We are happy to present you, within this celebration, the statement issued Oct 22 named: Women Religious on Human Trafficking. See: http://www.zenit.org/article-20806?l=english

Facts and figures speak for themselves. This document illustrates very well the extent of human trafficking in the world and in Canada.

A Celebration of Consecrated Life

May 27, 2007 - Feast of Pentecost: On this feast day, women and men religious of the Americas will unite in prayer to celebrate consecrated life.

It seems fitting that the celebration of consecrated life coincides with the feast  of Pentecost, as consecrated life is at the very heart of the Church as a decisive element for her mission. (Vatican II, Ad Gentes, # 18) The CRC invites you to take part in this celebration of consecrated life by using as inspiration the liturgical celebration it has prepared for the occasion. Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day: April 22, 2007 -- “The ecological crisis is not a crisis of the ecological milieu, it is a human crisis, whose final concern is the survival of humanity.” André Beauchamp

It is in solidarity with our fellow human beings that CRC invites you to celebrate the Earth Day 2007. Let us make it a time of prayer, profound reflection, and concrete action. The CRC personnel has prepared for your use a model of celebration and suggestions for actions.

April 22, 2007 -- Will the Earth Go On Without Us?

  • The proposed celebration and suggested actions are available in two formats: PDF and WORD.
  •  Things to do beforehand:
Invite your community or any group to celebrate Earth Day with you well in advance. You may like to invite lay associates to join the community.

Provide them with the Earth Charter as well as André Beauchamp’s presentation, asking them to read as much of these two texts as possible before April 22.

Scan Sunday or daily newspaper and select those headlines that remind us that we are citizens of one world and that the Earth, which is our home, is suffering dangerously. Choose preferably headlines and/or pictures related to environmental disasters that speed up the end of species including the possibility of human extinction.

Choose appropriate songs and music for your group.
